Finding the Perfect Pace

Follow up from Friday’s post.

I did it!! After the Struggle Run on Friday and taking the day off on Saturday, I got back to it today and literally had the best run of my life. I only stopped once, about 3/4 of a mile in, to reset my pace to something that felt more sustainable for the long haul. And then I didn’t stop at all until I had gone almost 3.5 miles. Boom.

What I learned along the way was that I’m in a race with no one. It’s not about how fast I can go, that will lead to burn out and stopping altogether. It’s not about how hard I can go, that will only lead to injury. It’s all about finding that rhythm and pace that is sustainable for the distance I intend to go.

Life. Work. Exercise. Spiritual pursuits. Health. All of it works just like that, doesn’t it?

I’m done with the fast pace that leads to burning out. I’m done with the “full court press” kind of energy that just leads to injuring myself in some narcissistic attempt at any kind of competition with anyone for anything.

I’m all about finding that perfect pace to create sustainability, longevity, and health.
